Business Need
Lookers required an enhanced solution to protect and secure their entire M365 stack from advanced cyber-security threats. They were acutely aware that Microsoft’s own standard data-handling policy was not fit for their purpose, as having all corporate data stored on a single platform leaves an organisation extremely vulnerable to ransomware attacks.
As Lookers wanted to explore a Veeam-based solution, Veeam introduced Autodata on account of our unique ability to create completely customised yet flexible solutions with a dedicated environment around M365. Lookers subsequently invited Autodata to respond to a Request For Proposal containing detailed requirements for an immutable, ransomware proof, fully managed solution, hosted off-site by a third-party supplier, with provision for 200TB of universal cloud storage. Lookers’ RFP contained additional stipulations around data security, sovereignty, access, control, and scaleability.
Lookers were clear that they did not want everything stored within the same platform (i.e. Microsoft Azure) and that they required true immutability with a complete data-lock to ensure nothing at all could be deleted, modified, overwritten, nor moved, by anyone at all.

Solution

This enables our Cloudlake Customers to deploy a centrally managed solution, wherever is most appropriate for best performance, all whilst maintaining data sovereignty and ensuring the ability to scale with ease, without compromising on crucial security features.
Our formal RFP response demonstrated how Cloudlake® Enterprise could achieve Lookers’ key aims of implementing a managed, ransomware-proof solution, whilst retaining complete control of their data via strong administration controls, right down to dictating the specific location of where it would be stored. As Lookers required support for a large number of users, we were able to provision a dedicated environment for them, including their own management servers, security protocols, VPNs, and proxy servers.
Cloudlake® can be integrated with any storage platform our Customers choose. We recommend Wasabi Hot Cloud Storage for multiple reasons, but particularly as it is truly immutable with no back doors and therefore cannot be unlocked by anybody.
Result
Autodata delivers Cloudlake as a fully Managed Service tailored to our clients’ needs. ForLookers, this combines Veeam Backup with Wasabi storage hosted within Equinix Tier 4 data centres. Cloudlake enables the flexibility for Lookers to move their storage whenever they want, and protect and secure their data from a cyber security threat by identifying and implementing an immutable backup solution for their Microsoft 365 and Azure tenants.
Cloudlake® provides a portable licensing model with the ability to define backup and restore speeds, monitor potential malware activity, alert whenever backups have failed or errored, and ensure all backups are ransomware-proof. From a data-sovereignty standpoint, our Customers can determine where their data is processed and stored, not simply by country or data centre, but by the individual platforms they want to backup, all whilst providing them with direct access to their storage layer at any given point in time.
